EMPIRE ACTRESS Vivica A Fox has been casted as the first Black female president in a live-action film.
In the upcoming indie sci-fi flick Crossbreed, Fox will play a president who sends war veterans on a mission to retrieve an alien whose DNA is being used to make weapons.
According to Mashable, a black actress has never played POTUS in a live-action film. Though Alfre Woodard was casted as president in the TV series State of Affairs and Penny Johnson Jerald lent her voice for the president in the animated movie Justice League: Gods and Monsters, every movie that has featured a female president has cast a white actress.
Director Brandon Slagle told The Hollywood Reporter that it was Fox's "commanding presence" and ability to "light up a room" that made her perfect for the role.
"Our President is positive and proactive, not the grim figure as is usually portrayed in these types of movies," he said.
