NIGEL Farage has confirmed that “significant” numbers of Conservative Party members have defected to Ukip since Theresa May became leader.
Writing for Bretibart, he said: “I have to say that the choice of a Remainer and her selection on the grounds of party unity is not particularly to my liking.
“That feeling is shared by many Conservative Party members, a fact that is proven by significant numbers of them joining UKIP in the past twenty-four hours. Social media has been awash with Tory members jumping ship to Mr Farage’s former party.
Twitter user Steve Lawton tweeted: "Sad that Leadsom has quit. Dirty politics from some MPs and media. I have voted Tory for the last 30 years but will now be joining Ukip."
Thomas Evans added: "I have seen at least 300 people on social networking sites the last five hours say that they have joined Ukip today. Purple surge?"
And Dee Harvey wrote: "I am unhappy at Theresa May being our new PM and have now joined Ukip. Theresa May appointed former London mayor and chief Brexit cheerleader Boris Johnson to the senior role of Foreign and Secretary.
And key positions were also handed to new Secretary of State for Brexit David Davis and Secretary for International Trade Liam Fox.
